ABOUT

The Beginning

Neelanjona Sabyasachi Thakur, aka Nilanjana Sarkar, a singer and voiceover artist, took tutelage in various forms of music from well-known musicians and performed in world-renowned auditoriums such as Carnegie Hall in New York, Ozawa Hall in Tanglewood and Esplanade Hall at Singapore in a musical project led by Yo Yo Ma, (15 Grammy Award-winning Cellist).

Her musical journey started way back in college when she formed a band, ‘Sanjeevani’, with some of her friends and released two albums, ‘Shanto Ashanto’ from Raga music and ‘Destination World Cup’ from Asha audio, in 2000 and 2003, respectively.

She didn’t limit herself by just being a VO artist and a playback singer. She further extended her expertise by being a top-ranking Radio Jockey on 92.7 Big FM, Kolkata, as ‘RJ Neel’, which ruled the airwaves for almost a decade.

The Milestone

In 2004, Neelanjona was selected for a musical project known as the ‘Silk Road Project’, where musicians from around the world gathered to exchange and create world music.

It was led by mentors like Yo Yo Ma (winner of 15 Grammy awards), Tabla Maestro Sandeep Das (Grammy Award Winner) and Wu Tong. The project opened many opportunities as she ventured to Singapore and later to the US to perform at various venues.

The On-going Journey

In 2009, a rare jazzy track, ‘Boye Jaye Shudhu Bish’, a playback song sung by Neelanjona for a Bengali movie ‘Housefull’, was released, bringing her many accolades, significantly the National Award. It marked a phenomenal music experience. She gave voice to other films such as ‘O My Love’, ‘Kagojer Nouko’ and ‘Kya Yahi Sach Hai.’

She paid tribute to the divas of Western music in ‘Divas Unleashed’, a show at Crossword book store in Kolkata, which was much appreciated by the critics.

Her playback singing journey mastered her for who she is today. Along with electrifying on-stage performances, she lent her voice to various ad jingles such as ICICI, Cambridge, and title tracks for TV serials like Sampurna, Hero, Ruptaan, C/O Labonyo, Aye Brishti Jhepe, to name a few.
